Sonteca Records was founded by Gizmo Varillas and co-managed by Gati Varillas as a natural extension of a journey shaped by movement across cultures, perseverance, and a deep belief in the power of independent creativity.
Created out of a desire to release music with care and intention, Sonteca has grown alongside Gizmo’s artistic journey, releasing his catalogue and fostering collaborations that bring together musicians across genres, cultures, and generations. From working with Afrobeat pioneer Tony Allen, to creative exchanges with artists such as Baio (Vampire Weekend), Le Parody, Sergio Mendoza (Calexico), Amanda Whiting, Cande Buasso, Pahua (Sotomayor), Bobby Bazini, Ralph Kaminski, Voilaaa, DIEGO, Camel Power Club, and other collaborators across recordings and releases, the label has become a space where musical dialogue can unfold organically.
Currently based in Brighton but shaped by an international outlook, Sonteca reflects a story of persistence, built step by step through touring, self-releasing, and cultivating a global audience outside traditional industry structures. The label’s ethos is simple: nurture music patiently, champion authentic voices, and allow songs the time and space to find their listeners around the world.
At its heart, Sonteca is about nurturing, recordings, collaborations, and creative relationships. With a hands-on approach spanning recording, visual storytelling, release strategy, and partnerships, the label supports projects that value depth and connection.
Sonteca Records stands as both a creative home shaped by independence, collaboration, and the belief that meaningful music resonates across borders and generations.
