“Working from his bedroom, the songwriter has pieced together a series of sunshine hymns, bizarrely contagious and wholly unique nuggets of summertime joy.” CLASH
“Hugely talented” Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music
A special talent has emerged. With completely viral plays at BBC 6 Music as well as a Top 30 airplay chart for his debut album’s first single “Gotta Getaway” (not to mention 26,000 streams via Apple Music), Gizmo Varillas follows this notable introduction with the second release from his new 3-track EP, “Give A Little Love”.
“Freedom for a Change” again blends lilting, exotic guitar riffs whilst adding an inspired, rougher Brazilian Tropicalia texture. This is a unique, intoxicating sound as timeless as it is genuinely exciting. Not only because Gizmo has played every instrument, engineered, arranged and produced every record he’s released. Picking up immediate acclaim from tastemakers such as Daytrotter, CLASH, Indie Shuffle and Sofar Sounds, Gizmo is building a formidable reputation.
Born in Santander, Gizmo grew up in Bilbao and arrived in London by way of Cardiff, studying as an aspiring documentary maker. A lost summer busking for food and accommodation across southern France however lead him down a different path; one year later, Gizmo began receiving seals of approval from seasoned artists like La Yegros and Gavin James, who he went on to support on tours across the UK and Europe. Another support act for Jack Savoretti’s recent sold out show at Somerset House, Gizmo will be announcing London shows himself; warm, engrossing and full of character, “Freedom for a Change” and Gizmo’s new EP continues the remarkable story of a humble gem of a star in waiting.
